The Light Up Dress

A trend I never expected to come to lolita, but really like, is the LED Dress!
The concept is exactly what it sounds like, LED lights incorporated into a dress. This has appeared on stages and celebrities on occasion before, but in the last few months it's been appearing slowly as a regular-person fashion accessory. And I really think it could become a trend.

These two are examples from Tumblr,
first, the very popular Doxiequeen1 in one of her many, impressive, fully handmade dresses that incorporated LED lighting;

(doxiequeen1.tumblr.com)

Second, is the first example I saw in a specifically Lolita fashion outfit, Jollymistress wearing lights to illumate Day Dream Carnival!

(jollymistress.tumblr.com)

Next, is the "Hikaru Skirt" by designer Kiyoyuki Amano.
These will apparently be commercially avaliable eventually, but right now are in prototype.

The only currently commercially avaliable light-up dress I can find right now is this one from RoseWholesale;

(rosewholesale)
Unfortunately it is currently out of stock, and not particularly suited to lolita fashion anyway.

But I am very interested to watch this idea develop, and hope it becomes a major trend in fashion for this year!

"Opposites Attract" Outfit Planning

The valentines meetup is coming up soon, and the theme is "Opposites Attract"! This means I can really flex my "twinning" muscles. I adore twin outfits, as a concept and a look.

First, Nun Lolita and Dandy;

\despite the massive popularity of nun-lolita in the last year, I haven't seen many boystyle counterparts. So this is my attempt at creating one!

Waistcoat: AATP
Neckpiece: metamorphose
Shorts: F+F

Dress: Metamorphose
neckpiece: Marble
Socks: BTSSB
\
Next, I decided to use my two Meta Nun OPs to create identical opposites

Both Dresses; metamorphose
Black bolero: Putumayo
White bolero: vintage
Black hat: Miho Matsuda
White Hat: offbrand and hand-decorated.
Both pairs of socks and shoes: Metamorphose

The other item I have a duplicate of is AATP Vampire Requiem. I have the red JSK and Black Skirt, so used those to creat vampire twins!

JSK and Skirt: AATP
Blue Blouse: Metamorphose
Both pairs of Socks: Metamorphose
Headbow with print: Baby
Solid black headbow: Heart E
Ribbon chokers from Etsy stores.
All decorative roses offbrand!

Which is your favourite? Do you like twin styles?

LBC: Local/Handmade Item Coord.

This week's Lolita Blog Carnival topic is: "Coord Made Completely from Handmade or Local Items"

I have a very obvious favourite handmade piece, that I may have mentioned several times before;

The red skirt with birdcadge embroidery, which was made by my friend Plasticskittles!

So I based my outfit around that, and used no brand items at all.

The blouse is from a local vintage store, the choker is from Boheminne Lily; a UK-based handmade jewelery shop!

I really like this outfit, so perhaps look out for it in some future OOTD snaps on instagram!

LBC: Favourite Event in 2014

                       This week's Lolita Blog Carnival topic, is: "Your favourite event in 2014"!

I can't decide between the two most memorable events for me last year, first is MCM Expo, at which my friend and I cosplayed Sakura and Tomoyo. It was so much fun, and this cosplay is one I'd wanted to do for a long time. So it was like living out a childhood dream!

The next thing was our TeaParty club Calender Photoshoot. It was so much fun, posing and being "devils and angels" with such good friends! And now our comm is in a calender, which is exciting.

January Wardrobe Post 2015

It's time for the annual "wardrobe post" theme, and this is my second time taking part! My wardrobe has gained a few key pieces, as I went to Japan last February and did a lot of shopping while I was there. However, a lot of my old favourites are still around. My Dandy/Boystyle clothing hasn't changed much at all, so most of it I didn't bother re-photographing, instead just taking pictures of the new additions.

Lets start with main pieces;
AATP Misty Night Game and Disney Snow White OPs.
BTSSB Marie Antoinette OP

Angelic Pretty, Wonder Cookie, Wonder Queen and Midnight Maid OPs

 Angelic Pretty Radient Candlelight skirt and Holy Lantern JSK.
  Angelic Pretty Milky Berry and Candy Drop JSKs

Infanta green chiffon OP and vintage black and green dress.

Bunny and Black Nurse JSK
Putumayo OP

Atelier BOZ Roland jacket in cream, and AATP striped tailcoat.
Ergi bunny hood, BTTSB ears.

CuteLou bat-flocked blouse, F+F blouse, Moitie velvet cutsew

HNaoto Frill OP and H.Blood JSK

AATP lucky pack jsk, haenuli sleeping beauty jsk and stained glass jsk.

 Innocent World brown OP and Dwarf Story OP

Innocent World grey OP, Charles Crown OP and Tartan OP.

Dangerous Nude medusa skirt, Metamorphose "rose cage" skirt.

AATP Stripe salopette, Angelic Pretty miniskirt.
red skirt handmade by a friend, Snowfield graveyard skirt, Re-Style vampire skirt.

Taobao cathedral print OP, Metamorphose Wonder Sillouette OP.
Excentrique burgandy pleated skirt, Ozz Croche mini skirt.

AATP, BTSSB and Laughing Vampire fur capelets.

Angelic Pretty cream jacket, and offbrand white brocade swing coat.
AATP Lab-coat, Metamorphose side-button blouse.

Red chantilly bonnet, Black and wine AATP bonnets, AP Wonder Queen bonnet,
White and chiffon taobao bonnets.

AATP, AP, MM, HeartE and Royal Rabbit headbows.

Handmade, taobao and Prongs headbands.

White blouses, vintage and AP.

Black Meta shoes, white Meta flats and AATP curl-heeled shoes.

AnTaiNa red lace up shoes and Metamorphose platforms.

PHEW!
And of course, I still have my four AATP vampire print pieces, however I didnt feel there was any point in re-photographing them this year.
There are a few things I haven't worn since the last wardrobe post, and that means it's probably time to sell them on and let them go to someone who will wear them. So look out for a sales post in spring!

10 Years a Lolita

This year, 2015 marks my tenth active in Lolita fashion. That's a little scary to me, as I often still think of myself as just getting started ;D

I decided to mark the occasion by giving a year-by-year run down of my experience in dressing Lolita. Complete with photos, bad and good. Starting with the first time I ever wore something "lolita";

*insert screming sound-effect*

Summer break, 2005. My mum gave me her old frilly shirts and 'new romantic' clothing. It was the closest thing I'd seen in real life to the Lolita clothes I loved so much on online.
Obviously back then, I still had no idea if I liked Dandy or Lolita more... but didn't realise how bad an idea it was to combine the two.
Oh well! We all start somewhere.. right?

By 06 I got the hang of separating the two;

 photo Kodona.jpg

But was still as new as new can be!

In 2007, I bought my first brand piece.
 photo 2007Lolita.jpg

"side frill rose skirt" by Metamorphose, I believe. I was so happy! There is even a photo of me on Metamorphose' "go go lolita-chan" page, as their Scotland Lolita from back then;
http://www.metamorphose.gr.jp/gogo_lolita_scotland.html
I was so proud at the time...

2007 is also when I first started attending Scotloli meetups! We were a small group, run through LJ. There were only about 4 of us, and the other three were all older, more experienced and better dressed than me. I was naturally quite intimidated, but also completely smitten with my new idols ;D

2008 was more of the same, more Metamorphose, more meetups. I was starting to really feel comfortable in lolita!

 photo 2008May.jpg

I tried running a meetup in Glasgow, and although there were only two of us at it, I made a friend and it's still a treasured memory!
(this is still one of my favourite dresses!)

In 2009, I moved to Japan for 6 months. I lived out in Iwate, teaching and generally being a fashion-free country girl. It was a wonderful experience while it lasted, but I made sure to take a few trips to Tokyo for shopping, and ultimately poor health meant I had to come home.

Xmas09Me photo 100_0378.jpg

ScotLoli had moved in part to Facebook, making it easier to run meets and find newbies. Photo is from the xmas meetup.

In 2010, I was getting set back up at home. getting started with treatment and diagnosis for what would turn out to be Fibromyalgia. It was stressful, but I still made time for Lolita;
 photo auchi1.jpg
My style didn't really change, but by 2010 it was considered "old school".

In 2011 I got closer to a photographer friend, and ultimately Harry and I have been together ever since!
 photo VF6.jpg  photo 301291_2322448862040_1274151092_32793880_5801645_n.jpg
I bought my first "dream dress", Vampire Forest. And got posted in my first Loli Secrets for taking pictures standing on the wall outside a greaveyard. It was a good year.
I also took my first forray into sweet, but went Dandy with it instead of Loli. (I made the tricorn myself, and am still pretty proud of it!)

2012 is pretty well documented in this blog, but in summary, life was starting to come together again, living with my partners and running/attending regular meetups.

This photo is from one of my favourite shoots, done that year.

2013, more meetups, more metamorphose. The comm started to fill out a bit with new faces and our meetups got a lot bigger.

 photo cparty7_zps1c81387f.jpg

And after all this time, I was still wearing my old fave meta dress.

And now, Old School and gothic motifs are back in again, and I...

 photo calendersolo_zps82848f75.jpg

really haven't changed much at all!

Here's to year ten of Lolita fashion. I hope to keep wearing it regularly, and our comm keeps growing.
